Tickets are coming in for the Summer Cabaret!
Join us for open Sylvia auditions on June 5!
We're so excited to announce that we've selected the dog-lovers' comedy Sylvia to close our 2024 season! Sylvia opens in October 2024, and we're holding open auditions on June 5 for a variety of comedic roles.
Where: The Chetco Library's Large Meeting Room, 405 Alder St, Brookings.
When: June 5, 5:00-6:30pm
What's Sylvia About? Greg and Kate have finally moved to Manhattan now that their kids have left the nest. Greg’s career in finance is winding down, while Kate’s career as a schoolteacher, is finally taking off. When Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag—the street-smart labradoodle becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife.
Sylvia offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age, but to Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.
We are seeking 3-5 adult actors for the following roles:
Greg: Middle-age, husband of Kate, owner of Sylvia. His career in finance is starting to wind down.
Kate: Middle-age, wife of Greg, reluctant owner of Sylvia. Her career as a teacher is starting to take off now that the kids are out of the house.
Tom: Any age, a fellow patron of the local dog park.
Phyllis: Middle-age or older, a long-time friend of Kate's.
Leslie: Any age, Greg and Kate's marriage counselor.
Be prepared to read excerpts from the script (and to act alongside a talking dog!)
Note: If you need to arrive a little late due to work/childcare situations, we understand! Late arrivals accepted, but please be aware that all readings end at 6:30pm. If you cannot make the in-person audition and would like to audition remotely, please make arrangements with director Jason Liddell no later than June 4. He can be reached on Facebook Messenger, by phone at 541-251-0640, or by email at jasonliddell91@gmail.com.
We got an angel donation!
This month, we were both floored and honored to receive a $5000 donation from an anonymous donor--and we can't stress how big of a deal this gift is for a fledgling nonprofit like Threepenny.
While our angel is anonymous, we can tell you exactly what this money is going toward--investing in crucial lighting and sound equipment our company needs to produce theater anywhere, at anytime. We had previously been borrowing light trees and cans from our friends at Brookings-Harbor Community Theater.
Thanks to this donation, we can now operate with more independence while freeing up that equipment for BHCT's dedicated use. Which is awesome for everyone, since BHCT has begun to produce children's plays more regularly again this year!
We also officially became a qualified organization with the Oregon Cultural Trust this month, so if you file an Oregon tax return, your tax-deductible donations to us can stretch even further and benefit cultural organizations throughout the state. If you've never taken advantage of that program before, you can learn more about how it works at culturaltrust.org
